Making Sense of Silo Pressure Measurements

This website is presented to you by Caroline Fahy and Caitriona Mulkerins. We are both final year Civil Engineering students at the University of Edinburgh and this website is part of our BEng Thesis project in which we have chosen to study and make sense of silo wall pressure measurements.

The purpose of our thesis is to analyse and try making sense of the pressure measurements in silo walls during filling, storage and discharge of the silo. There is a need for us to take a closer look at these pressures due to the fact that more silo structures fail than any other structure presently. The discharge pressure measurements will be looked at in greater detail than filling and storage as these pressures lead to most failures due to there unpredictability.

Our supervisor for this project is Professor Michael Rotter and our second reader is Dr. Yunming Yang.
